Traditionally, when we were buying a wine to drink at home, we bought from a bottle store, where there was someone who knew at least something about wine who, if asked, could guide us towards a wine that met our requirements. These days, however, most of us buy our wine from supermarkets or large liquor stores, where there is little or no knowledgeable assistance available.
